The building is called a ‘Pill Box’.
It was built during the Second World War (1939-1945) to help defend England in case of an enemy invasion.
It was designed to be used as a rifle and machine gun post for three riflemen and one machine gunner.
These would have been people from the village who had been trained by the army.
