War Memorial

The war memorial holds the names of 47 men who died in WW1 and 8 from WW2.  It was unveiled on 25th July 1920.

Lance Corporal Edward Barnard was killed in action in France in March 1916, aged 25.

His brother, Sergeant Frederick Barnard, was killed in action in August 1916 in France aged 23.

They were the sons of Jonah & Jane Barnard of Bowling Alley. Before they went to war Edward was a butcher’s assistant and Frederick a gardener.

Rifleman George Thomas Barnard died of his wounds in France in March 1918, aged 23. He was the son of John & Ruth Barnard of Clynton Villa, Pankridge Street. Before the war he had been an errand boy.
