The Poplar Trees on Hook Meadow

The Lombardy Trees on Hook Meadow

The trees are Lombardy poplar trees and were planted by Jim Bryant in 1949.

They are fast growing trees which can grow up to 2 metres in a single year! Lombardy Poplar trees probably came originally from Northern Italy in the 18th century but have since been planted throughout the world as an ornamental tree.

They are often chosen as a fast-growing living screen to protect an area against wind and the elements.
